Three windows, tiled the moment they opened.

A real, unedited screen recording of Lunchbox on macOS. The colored windows stand in for your apps.

Why Lunchbox

No config file. No SIP.
No surprises.

Free tiling window managers are made for tinkering: a config file to write, rules for apps that misbehave, sometimes System Integrity Protection to turn off. Lunchbox already knows how Mac apps behave.

Dialogs float, centered

Open and Save panels, alerts and password prompts sit in the middle of their screen instead of splitting your tiles apart. So do About boxes and progress windows.

Fixed-size apps tile at their own size

Simulator, Calculator and System Settings sit in a column sized to fit them, and the window beside them gets the rest. No list to keep: it learns each window's size the first time it places it.

New windows land in their tile

A new window goes straight to its spot as it opens, not wherever its app put it. Open an app from Summon or the Dock and a placeholder holds its place while it starts.

Workspaces switch instantly

Left ⌘ and a number takes you there, with no Mission Control slide. Add ⇧ and the window comes along. Three to start, up to nine.

Set up in about a minute

Install it, allow Accessibility so it can move your windows, then try every shortcut on a practice screen that can't touch your real windows. Nothing to turn off in macOS, no file to edit.

How it works

Learn it before your
coffee cools.

Left ⌘ goes somewhere. Add ⇧ and it moves something. Right ⌘ keeps its usual job, and every shortcut can be changed.

Frequent Questions

Why pay when there are free tiling window managers?

Free tilers are great if you enjoy configuring them. Lunchbox is for everyone else: dialogs, fixed-size apps and new windows are handled from the start, Workspaces are instant without turning anything off in macOS, and there's no config file. And if it isn't for you, you get your $4.99 back within 14 days.

Is there a subscription?

No, and there never will be. You pay $4.99 once and Lunchbox is yours, including every future version. Nothing renews and you're never charged again.

Is there a free trial?

No. Lunchbox is $4.99, paid once, up front. The recording and the walkthrough above show exactly how it works, and if it isn't right for you, you get a full refund within 14 days, no questions asked.

What does Lunchbox need permission for?

Accessibility is required: it's how Lunchbox moves and resizes other apps' windows and hears its shortcuts. Screen Recording is asked the first time the Focus Shelf appears, so the Shelf can show live previews of your windows instead of app icons. Browser control is asked the first time Summon sends a web search to Safari, Chrome, Arc, Edge, Brave or Vivaldi, so the page opens as a tab in the Workspace you're in; say no and links open the usual way. There are no folder prompts: Summon doesn't search your files.

Will it take over my keyboard?

Only a handful of combinations, all with the left ⌘ key, plus ⇧ then Space for Summon (tapped one after the other, so typing a capital and a space never opens it). Right ⌘ keeps doing what it always did: ⌘← still jumps to the start of a line, and ⌘1 still picks a browser tab.

Can I change the shortcuts?

Yes, every one. Open Keyboard Shortcuts from the menu bar, click a command and press the keys you want. Lunchbox turns down combinations that would get in the way of typing or that another command already uses, and Restore All Defaults puts everything back.

How do I set it up?

Lunchbox walks you through it the first time it opens: allow Accessibility, then try every shortcut on a practice screen that can't touch your real windows. It takes about a minute, and Welcome & Setup in the menu bar runs it again.

How do Workspaces work?

Left ⌘ and a number goes to that Workspace instantly: ⌘1, ⌘2, ⌘3. Add ⇧ (⌘⇧2) and the focused window comes with you. You start with three and can add up to nine from the menu bar. Hide (⌘⇧H) tucks a window out of sight, still open; Summon brings it back to wherever you are. Right ⌘ and a number still reach the app in front, and with three Workspaces ⌘⇧4 and ⌘⇧5 are still the Mac's screenshot keys.

Does it work with more than one display?

Yes. Each display has its own layout and focus crosses between them at the edges. If a second display is a dummy plug or you only want your main screen tiled, turn off Use All Displays in Settings.

Something isn't working. How do I get help?

Write to support@sentientdonut.com. It helps to choose Settings › Copy Diagnostics in Lunchbox's menu first and paste what it copies into your email: your Lunchbox and macOS versions, your displays, and which apps' windows are in each Workspace. It never includes window titles, file names or your license key.

What does "lifetime updates" mean?

You buy Lunchbox once and every future version is included. No upgrade fees, no subscription, no catch.
